Strengthening Our Team to Address Economic Inclusion Challenges

How can organizations address inequalities and foster inclusion? This is the renewed challenge that the HEC S&O Inclusive Economy Center will strive to meet with the help of its new academic director Brian Hill, and two young researchers Octavio de Barros and Bariscan Yalcin who have just joined the team.
 

Brian Hill is Research Director at the French National Centre for Scientific Research (CNRS), member of the GREGHEC laboratory (CNRS-HEC Paris), and Professor in the Economics and Decision Sciences Department at HEC Paris. He received the CNRS Bronze Medal for early-career researchers in 2014. Much of his research has focused on how individuals and societies do and should deal with severe uncertainty, notably in their decision making. He has published in top management, economics and philosophy journals. 

Recently, he has also worked on attitudes to inequality and their role in addressing social challenges. He is the author of the academic paper "Are people willing to pay more for reduced inequality?" forthcoming in the prestigious journal Management Science. Brian is taking over the role of academic director from Marieke Huysentruyt and will be working alongside Bénédicte Faivre-Tavignot  and a whole team of dedicated staff and researchers. We are delighted to work closely with him as he takes this new challenge.

Within our team, we are also warmly welcoming Octavio de Barros, a 33-year-old Brazilian with a Ph.D. in Business Economics from Insper (Brazil). As a research associate at the IEC, he aims to deepen both theoretical and practical understanding of how different sorts of stakeholder vulnerabilities influence business outcomes, while also examining the role of various types of organizations in addressing social challenges within vulnerable communities. Bariscan Yaclin is a 26-year-old Turkish graduate with a dual background in Economics and Psychology from the Paris School of Economics. Currently a pre-doctoral research assistant at the Inclusive Economy Center, he will support the research team in investigating how social ties can foster societal progress.

With this strengthened and diverse team, the Inclusive Economy Center wants to further its contribution to a world where everyone feels economically included, where business helps expand economic opportunity for all and promotes social justice.
