Acting for Women’s Empowerment in Developing Countries: the Follow’Her Initiative
With the Follow’Her association, 5 HEC Paris Master in Management students (Class of 2016) will promote information and communication technologies to improve women’s integration in developing countries.
Juliette, Hélène, Emmanuelle, Charlotte and Rebecca are entirely convinced of women’s crucial role in development efforts and the urgent need to improve their position in society. They believe that technology can counteract women’s limited access to information and opportunities. Unfortunately today, access to digital technologies remains largely out of reach for women in certain developing countries. Thus, the 5 women’s challenge lies in turning digital technologies into a motor to promote a more inclusive economy for women rather than letting them widen the gender gap.
Follow’Her has built partnerships with several projects in various countries that take advantage of these technologies to empower women in multiple fields such as education, training, finance or employment.
For 7 months, the five women will support their partners locally and help them improve their impact on women.
Their final goal is to communicate these innovative ideas in a digital book, by assessing the situations, sharing video stories and interviews, as well as highlighting potential for improvement and replicable ideas.
To finance their missions, Follow’Her has created a crowdfunding campaign on the Women’s Worldwide Web platform.
