Will ESG Save the Planet? RESKILL Masterclass #4
Participate
In this RESKILL Masterclass session, Hélène Löning, HEC Paris Associate Professor of Accounting and Performance Management, will address ESG, an accounting framework used to quantify sustainability for investors. Professor Löning will answer the following questions: What is ESG? Why does ESG struggle to be effective? Why is ESG nevertheless essential to avoid greenwashing? After her 20 minute-masterclass, she will answer your questions live for another 20 minutes. Please join the free masterclass on LinkedIn live. Update post event: find the replay on YouTube here.
Hélène Löning first became interested in environmental issues in 2010, with the thesis of her doctoral student on carbon accounting at Danone. An interest that was deepened, pushed by her children and her students.
Despite allegations by her younger students at HEC Paris of greenwashing - sometimes legitimate -, Professor Löning believes that businesses must be part of the solution. Admittedly, she says, it takes regulators and public policies to improve the situation. It takes individual commitment and behavioral change to progress. But it also takes a major business transition. This is the reason why she moderated the panel on policies for business transformation at the Climate Day 2023. It also motivates her desire to share her insights into the efforts to measure and manage sustainability, through this RESKILL Masterclass.
More specifically, Hélène Löning will discuss the challenges of proper measurement; the reasons why ESG reporting is still important (despite the current lack of convergence); and how this framework can have an impact on sustainability and on many companies who are trying to do better... or even to do good!
